Raising Risk Awareness and Smashing the Stigma of Addiction
In collaboration with youth artists, community leaders, special guests and sponsors, SafeLaunch presents Flights Above Addiction
Flights Above Addiction is a flying brain science lesson using art and aviation to inform families and communities that…
When exposed to alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs, children are up to six times more vulnerable to the brain disease of addiction than adults.
90% of the disease of addiction is contracted in the teen years
Addiction is a preventable brain disease
Flights Above Addiction invites teams of student artists to paint an airplane at regional airports. After participating in an interactive lesson about the science of addiction, the artists depict their own dreams on the fuselage of the plane. Photographs and videos of the event are taken and shared to spread the the youths’ important message as far as possible.
Student participants have the opportunity to take control and feel the possibility of flight to give them a sense of the vast possibilities that a life without addiction holds.
Individuals, businesses, and youth service providers who support our mission – to prevent early exposure to substances that cause addiction – are invited to sponsor Flights Above Addiction. Sponsors receive recognition of their commitment to the cause at the events, in media, and in publications.
