SafeLaunch is bringing their healthy teen program “Flights Above Addiction” to the San Gabriel Valley Airport at 4233 Santa Anita Avenue, El Monte, California on Saturday, May 9 at 2pm.

This will be the ninth SafeLaunch “Flight Above Addiction” event in California, where youth are invited to paint their dreams for a healthy future, a future free from the disease of addiction, onto a Cessna Skylane. The artists for this event are youth from the Boys and Girls Club of the Foothills in Monrovia. The public and press are invited to see the art come to life between 2 and 4pm.

The Cessna is a focal point for the addiction prevention organization SafeLaunch, co-founded by Ron Cuff and Janet Rowse. Promoting a science-based approach to addiction prevention, SafeLaunch offers teens opportunities to raise awareness about the threat of addiction to youth. “A 14-year old, if exposed to any addictive substance, is up to six times more susceptible to this incurable disease than an adult, according to recent research from the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University,” Ron Cuff says.

“SafeLaunch invites youth to focus on the beauty of life and the many ways that they can achieve a natural high,” states Janet Rowse. “We encourage everyone to learn the facts about addiction, and to do everything possible to stop this preventable disease where it starts 90% of the time… with adolescent exposure to alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs”.
